Lonesome Wind Longbows

Hunting Wildebeest with a longbow
Wildebeest Taken by Vince in August '08

My name is Vince Smith and Lonesome Wind is my dream. With my wife of 20+ years, Dede, I’ve been building bows for about 8 years, 2 years of apprenticing and 6 years on my own. I strive to build as good a bow as you can buy for the money anywhere. My designs have come from a lot of trial and error and a little high tech computer design help. I offer 7 different models, 2 of them being take-downs, in lengths from 54 inches to 68 inches and everything in between. My kid’s bows are offered in 48 inches and 56 inches and are just what you need to get that youngster started.

I use just about any exotic hardwood you can use in a bow, with the exception of Pink Ivory. I grind all my own laminations so I can find some beautiful woods and grind the laminations I need. For my limb cores I use Maple, Red Elm, or Bamboo. All my limbs on my higher end bows use a reverse taper in the limb with a back to belly trap for a smooth draw with the maximum amount of power delivered to the arrow. I pride myself on a bow that shoots where you look and drives an arrow hard. My bows that are 62” and longer, with the exception of the Tempest, are forgiving, meaning that they are tolerant of arrow spine and archer release. Short bows, by their nature, are much more particular about arrow spine, and especially release My bows have been used all over to hunt all kinds of animals, from Whitetails in Nebraska to Kudu in South Africa and everything in between. I feel if you give one a try you’ll find you have a new favorite hunting partner!

I fully understand that there are a lot of people building bows out there and you have a lot to choose from. I’m proud to say that a lot of the bowyers out there are friends of mine and they all build a quality product. You’d be hard pressed to go wrong with most of your choices today. I feel that my bows stack up in performance and beauty to what’s available in today’s longbow market. So thanks for looking and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to drop me an e-mail or give me a call to discuss what you are looking for.
